Microsoft Flow and Power BI: Stream real-time data to power bi service using power bi data alerts
Microsoft flow offers capabilities to push data into power bi service using power bi data alerts. For our demonstration today, a data alert will be configured in a tile on the Power BI dashboard (Case Dashboard). The data set is connected to a Dynamics 365 organization and the report displays the total number of cases till date. Once the report is pinned to a dashboard the next step is to create an alert that will be triggered once the total number of cases are above 40.
Create an alert on the tile to be triggered once the total number of cases are above 40.
Now create a real time streaming dataset which is populated by Microsoft flow whenever the total number of cases are above 40. E.g. This streaming dataset can be used by a visual and can only be accessed by manager to notify them to take necessary action based on the total case count.
4. Create a Manager tile connected to “StreamingDataSet”.
5. Microsoft Flow
Use the Microsoft Flow template to stream real-time data to “StreamingDataSet” based on the data alert set on “CaseReport” in STEP 2.
Once the flow job is triggered by power bi data alert (total number of cases > 40) and ran successfully, the “StreamingDataSet” is populated and the message appears on Manager Tile.
